Quilchena Community Centre Project – Public Comments Invited

January 22, 2024 – Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) must determine whether the proposed Quilchena Community Centre Project, located near Merritt, BC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

• The Upper Nicola Band (UNB) is proposing to build a Community Centre in the unincorporated community of Quilchena, approximately 25 km northeast of Merritt, BC, and 7 km east of Nicola Lake, and on Nicola Lake Indian Reserve No. 1.  
• The proposed project is to be located on a lot about 4.9 ha in area.
• The proponent has applied for funding from Indigenous Services Canada's First Nations Child and Family Services Program for the construction of the proposed community centre.
