Project Description:

Greenstone Gold Mines will be carrying out the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of an open-pit gold mine and on-site metal mill located approximately five kilometers south of Geraldton, Ontario, at the intersection of Highway 11 (Trans-Canada Highway) and Michael Power Boulevard. As proposed, the gold mine would have an ore production capacity of 30,000 tons per day, and the metal mill would have an ore input capacity of 30,000 tons per day.

Enforcement officers designated under the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) conducted a site inspection of the Greenstone Gold Mine on October 05, 2023. The project is in the construction phase.

The enforcement officers inspected the following conditions:

  • Condition #3 – Fish and Fish Habitat
  • Condition #4 – Migratory Birds
  • Condition #5 – Health and socio-economic conditions of Indigenous Peoples
  • Condition #6 – Current use of lands and resources for traditional purposes
  • Condition #7 – Physical and cultural heritage and structures, sites or things of historical, archaeological, paleontological or architectural significance
  • Condition #8 – Listed Species at Risk
  • Condition #9 – Accidents and Malfunctions
