Maintenance dredging - 10619 Timberland Road – Public comments invited

May 4, 2026 - The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and Environment and Climate Change Canada must determine whether the proposed Maintenance dredging - 10619 Timberland Road, within the water lot area adjacent to 10619 Timberland Road, Surrey, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and Environment and Climate Change Canada are inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority will serve as the lead authority for this project review and will be the primary point of contact receiving comments, coordinating their distribution and ensuring input from the other federal authorities. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations. Written comments must be submitted by June 3, 2026

The proposed project

Mainland Construction Materials proposes to remove accumulated sediments from the water lot area adjacent to 10619 Timberland Road, Surrey, to restore design depths for the safe moorage of barges and associated vessels during all tidal conditions. The applicant is seeking a multi-year permit to dredge periodically within the fish least risk window for the Fraser River. Total dredge area is approximately 2,250 square metres. Total dredge and disposal volume would be approximately 4,000 cubic metres per year. The dredge cut depth would be approximately -5 metres chart datum, consistent with previous dredging. The last maintenance dredge took place in 2019.

Maintenance dredging works would be conducted from the water. A clamshell dredge situated on a marine spud derrick would be used. Dredged materials will be loaded onto a barge for transport and disposal at an approved disposal at sea site, or to a suitable upland location for reuse or disposal as applicable.
